The locker room is empty with the exception of me. The guys have just cleared out, ready to hit the restaurant, but I needed a moment to compose myself. Weâre heading over there to ask questions and see if we can find Piper. Seeing that our warrant covers all of his properties, we can jump from one location to the next, but the detectives and the lieutenant insisted that we strategically plan our moves.
My phone pings pulling me from my thoughts.
Mary: Lynch is doing well. He said to kick ass today.
I chuckle and send back a fist bump.
Itâs time to roll. I think to myself. Those are Lynchâs favorite words.
I meet the guys who are discussing the plan. Weâre hitting Bello Italiano first. Jordan is supposed to show up there within the next few hours to meet Antonio in exchange for Piperâs release. Thereâs not one person in this room that believes Piper will be released. As a matter of fact, the point was brought up that he could have recorded her talking to Jordan. Heâs a smart man. We have to consider that she could be dead and heâs just using her to get Jordan back.
Carson, Paris, and I all head over in their car. There are two other cop cars behind us, and SWAT is on standby in case we need them.
The restaurant opened for lunch at eleven thirty so we need to be careful, there will be people there. The last thing we want is a shooting gallery.
There are only about five or six cars in the lot when we arrive. Thatâs good. It means the restaurant hasnât gotten super busy yet. I exhale a deep breath and we exit the car. I want to rush through the door, running through every room in that building, but I canât. We calmly walk through the front door and are instantly greeted by a hostess. âWe have a warrant to search the building. Where is your manager?â Paris asks.
âIâm the manager.â A tall gentleman with short dark hair comes over.
âWe have a warrant to search the restaurant.â Paris hands him the paper.
âSearch away. If you tell me what youâre looking for, maybe I can speed up the process for you.â
Yeah because this guy is going to admit to hiding Piper in some room. He speaks to the girl in Italian, but Carson stops him. âEnglish please.â
âForgive me. Itâs a habit. I was asking her to watch the front of the restaurant while I show you around.â
The gentleman takes us on a tour of the building, room by room we search the facility but thereâs no sign of Piper anywhere.
Paris finally asks him, âWhere is the owner, Antonio?â
âItaly.â
âOkay, we know thatâs not true. You can tell us the truth, or we can take you to the precinct for questioning and arrest you for obstruction,â Paris threatens.
Weâre frustrated because not only did we not find her, but we didnât even find a room that she could have been held in. The back of the restaurant is a pretty open layout.
